国际正负电子直线对撞机(ILC)是继正在欧洲核子中心建造的大型强子对撞机LHC之后的又一个TeV能量的高能对撞机,它的优点是能够对电弱对称破缺机制和新物理进行精确探测。ILC计划得到了国际高能界的普遍支持。在2003年美国能源部的未来二十年大科学工程规划中,正负电子直线对撞机被列为中期投资的首选项目。2004年的国际高能物理大会正式宣布ILC将采用DESY的直线对撞机TESLA的超导技术。
为了促进我国在直线对撞机方面的研究以更好地参加ILC国际合作,在德国DESY的Rolf-Dieter Heuer教授的倡议下,清华大学高能物理研究中心(TUHEP)和中国高等科学技术中心(CCAST)联合主办的2005年"直线对撞机物理、探测器与加速器国际研讨会/暑期学校"于2005年7月15-20日在清华大学理学院楼报告厅举办。会议分别由来自德国DESY的专家Peter Wienemann、Roman Poeschl和Carlo Pagani作有关ILC实验、探测器、加速器方面的系列报告;由美国Wisconsin大学韩涛教授,Michigan State大学袁简鹏教授,清华大学何红建教授以及Princeton高等研究所的李田军博士作ILC和LHC物理及新计算方法和技巧、标准模型和新物理模型的理论及唯象方面的系列报告;由理论物理所马建平研究员、北京大学朱守华教授、清华大学M.Bisset教授作专题理论报告。
